Stubs GFS 18" Long Imperial Ground Flat Stock
Stubs GFS 18" Long Imperial Ground Flat Stock
- Supplied in precision-ground stock sizes
- Exhibits a low dimensional movement during hardening
- Suitable for a wide variety of cold work tooling & other applications where a combination of reasonable life & cost is involved
- Decarburisation-free in the fully annealed condition with a hardness of 229 HB maximum
TOLERANCES:
Imperial Metric
Thickness +0.001" +0.050 mm
-0.000" -0.000 mm
Width +0.05" +0.20 mm
-0.00" -0.00 mm
HEAT TREATMENT
Hardening -
Heat uniformly to 780/820
C depending on bulk. Equalise at temperature, then oil quench to hand warmth. Temper immediately.
The 'interrupted quench' method of hardening is recommended as a means of minimising the possibility of stress cracking or excessive distortion developing during oil quenching.
This involves quenching from the standard hardening temperature into a salt bath held at 180/200
C, equalising at this temperature, & then air cooling to room temperature.
After boiling off the adherent salt, tempering is carried out in the normal way.
Tempering -
Temper as soon as possible after hardening, allowing at least 11/2 hours at temperature.
In practice, tempering is normally carried out in the range 150-220
C.
Applications
- Gauges
- Blanking & forming dies
- Guide plates
- Cams
- Templates
- Shear blades
- Punches
- Slitting cutters
- Press tools
- Machine wear parts etc.
Further processing of this material could lead to exposure to substances, which may present a health hazard.
Therefore effective, local dust / fume extraction must be used.
All Ground Flat Stock is 18" in length.
